I have a favorite picture that we took almost two years ago now – It
is my favorite image of our community of faith.
It speaks to me of the feast that we set before one another week after
week.
We
arrive, each from our homes, from our jobs, from the joys and concerns that
fill our lives and we arrive together.
We scoot in a pew beside another, to whom and with whom we belong.

We made it to "the other side" of Easter. We spend weeks preparing
during the season of Lent and then what? Was all of the
introspection to hear once again the story of an empty tomb and
surprised, fearful disciples?

I read Where
Do Balloons Go? by Jamie Lee Curtis to my 2 year old grand daughter
Julia. While I enjoy the meaning, she
enjoys the colorful and creative illustration by Laura Cornell. The book takes us on a journey of imagining
where balloons go when they get away from us and in the end encourages us to "hold
on tight... until we have to let go.”
The lesson of this book helps me understand Jesus' death on a personal level.

In Australia on February 19, a horse got stuck in mud off
the coast of Australia. Battling the
rising tide, the horse's owner held her head above the mud for three
hours. Can you imagine the faithfulness of this friendship? Can you feel the fear of the animal or the
weariness of the friend? Have you ever
been "in the mud” per se? Have you ever
needed the faithful arms of a friend to hold up your head?

I started following a cartoon website recently - http://xkcd.com
– this is number 731. I found it
terribly funny and also applicable to our upcoming season of Lent.

This past fall the theme of our Stewardship campaign was
"Our Story: Telling It and Living It.” Do you remember our cardboard "Story
Tree” that Gary made and the leaves we attached to the tree’s branches

Wouldn't
it be great if we could step back from the events of our past year? I meant really step back...

In
October
we walked, 30 of us, into St. Mary’s Cathedral in Trenton with no idea
what we would meet. Tom Qualey looked at
me and said "This is way beyond my comfort zone.” We had no directions
of what to do.

Around our Thanksgiving table, we
try to respond to the simple question, "for what are we thankful for this
year?” When I read this reflection from
Joyce Rupp, I began to think differently about what my answer might be this
year.

I’ve found great solace in the Psalms these past couple months.
They are so very human and honest, vulnerable and rich. I suppose I
turn to them in times when I don’t know how or what to pray.
